Migrant Labour and the Structure of the Labour Market in Lebanon

Date:
30 April, 2018 - 18:00 - 20:00

Whilst a few scholars have examined the situation of foreign domestic workers, the issue of migrant labor as a whole (its contribution to the labor market, the status and situation of different categories of workers, and their impact on the Lebanese social structure), is largely ignored, whereas the high proportion of foreign workers in Lebanon results in an increasing fragmentation of the working class, and the embeddedness of the Lebanese class structure in globalization.

A field research completed in 2012- 2013 in two different sectors (cleaning services and food industry) addressed the social impact of the imbalance in the labor market between Lebanese and different categories of non-Lebanese workers, on labor relations.
