Résumé / Abstract
In this study, the discourse of two first grade Lebanese classes in which science is being taught in Arabic will be compared. These classes were taught by two different teachers with two different approaches to the use of the Lebanese dialect and Modern Standard Arabic (nahawi). Differences in student-teacher interaction patterns in these two classes will be presented and implications of diglossia for the quality of science instruction in the early years will be discussed.
